Art of the Baba Yaga
A witch of great power, the crone who guards the gates between worlds. Embrace her magic without fear.
The Baba Yaga is a witch from Slavic folklore.
Her story has been simplified and vilified over the years, as people learned to think of her strictly as a frightening monster who ate children.
In truth, her purpose was much more complex. Coming to the Baba Yaga for guidance was inviting her to unmake and rebuild you. She was the keeper of the portal to other worlds, the great keeper of truth. She would destroy you to rebuild you.
Jordan portrays Baba Yaga and her chicken-legged hut in her work often. She believes that we need to extinguish the fear and learn to embrace our crones for the magic they bring.
These adorable luminaries hold an LED tealight (included) and are raku fired for that great smoky finish. Measuring about the size of a baseball, these tiny treasures are easy to incorporate into any decor, altar, or bedside table.

The Baba Yaga’s hut is an iconic folkloric character. Baba Yaga is a witch from Slavic lore, known colloquially for eating children; but her actual nature and purpose is far more complex and meaningful. It is believed that she was not an eater of children, but rather a keeper of the portal to the other world. You visited the Baba Yaga when you were ready to seek change, to be undone and reborn. Thus, the legend of eating ‘youth’ was created, as Yaga helped many transition to their next phase, sometimes into adulthood or cronehood.
These Baba Yaga hut pendants help you remember the power of cronehood and woman magic, the importance of transitions, and a reminder to feel no fear of powerful women. Unwinding the harmful stories that patriarchy has put upon women, we find a gentler and more welcoming version of Yaga.
One of a kind, each different. Once you have selected and paid for a colour, we will email you with a photo of an available pendant to ensure you are satisfied with your specific hut. Comes with an 18” gold plated chain.
Illustrated tea cup and saucer.
